POLAR BEARS

These items were created as part of a 'self-promotional' project.

All 3 artefacts focus on the importance of polar bears, and the fragility of their environment.

NARRATIVE

This short wordless narrative follows Bert, a polar bear, who becomes easier to find as his environment slowly disappears. Every turn of a page reveals a landscape with decreasing amounts of snow and ice, which makes it harder for Bert to hide in. This reflects what is currently happening in the Arctic, as polar bears are becoming vulnerable as their habitat is changing and becoming smaller.

Bert is named in tribute to 'Robert Peary', the first explorer to discover the Arctic in 1909, and 'Robert W. Buchanan', the founder of 'Polar Bears International'.

The images themselves were created using recycled and scrap paper from old books and past projects, furthering the message of sustainability and consideration for the environment.

A portion of profits from the sale of these original prints will go to 'Polar Bears International'.

SOAP

Handmade, vegetable based, glycerin soap, created in the shape of a polar bear inside an iceberg, which 'melts' with use. This also plays on the idea that the future of these animals is 'in our hands'.
